WHITE & CASE HIRES LEADING DISPUTES LAWYER IN WARSAW

“As one of Poland’s top-ranked litigation lawyers, Pawel is an excellent addition to our disputes team in Central and Eastern Europe and globally,” commented Jan Matejcek, Regional Section Head for Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). “Pawel has worked on several of the most high-profile international litigation and arbitration cases in Poland, and his proven track record of success further strengthens our market-leading capabilities advising on dispute proceedings across the region, including the Commonwealth of Independent States, as well as globally.”

Pietkiewicz joins from CMS Cameron McKenna, where he headed its Poland dispute resolution practice. He advises on a wide range of matters and has broad experience in the demanding sectors. He is ranked in Tier 1 of both the Chambers Europe and EMEA Legal500 legal directories, which describe him as the market’s “prominent practitioner.”

Pietkiewicz joins the Warsaw Dispute Resolution Practice team with 19 other lawyers, including five new local partners: Łukasz Hejmej, Tomasz Manicki, Sebastian Pabian, Paweł Samborski and Michał Subocz, all from CMS Cameron McKenna. Hejmej specializes in insurance and corporate disputes and arbitration proceedings. Manicki is experienced in proceedings regarding criminal commercial and fiscal law, as well as compliance procedures. Pabian specializes in insurance and regulatory disputes. Samborski and Subocz are experienced in advising on construction disputes and arbitration proceedings.

The appointment of Pietkiewicz and his 19-member-strong team follow the announcement of the arrival of a number of new partners in White & Case’s CEE Dispute Resolution Practice.

In January, Paraschiva (Peggy) Şuică-Neagu joined the Firm as a partner and head of its Bucharest Dispute Resolution Practice. In mid-2010, the Firm announced the arrival of partner David Goldberg, a leading Russian-speaking international arbitration lawyer, who is based in Moscow and London. Earlier in 2010, Milan Kohlrusz joined White & Case as a partner and head of its Dispute Resolution Practice in Budapest, adding significant experience in administrative, commercial and civil litigation and in the resolution of sensitive conflicts with various governmental bodies in the Hungarian courts, as well as the European Court of Justice.

Pietkiewicz and his team’s arrival continues the build-out of White & Case’s CEE Dispute Resolution Practice as part of the Firm’s broader strategy of expanding its global disputes team, which currently numbers more than 700 lawyers.

“Our clients will certainly benefit from the coordinated advice provided by our integrated teams in London, New York, Washington, DC, Moscow, Budapest, Paris and Stockholm, who work seamlessly on a wide variety of dispute cases,” said John Willems, Regional Section Head for the Firm’s Disputes Practice in Western Europe, Middle East and Africa. “Pawel’s recognized expertise in litigation, combined with the recent additions of a Russian-speaking arbitration team in London and a top white collar team in New York and Paris, adds significant strength to key areas of our global dispute resolution practice.”
