Online breakfast with BALAJCZA – “Rome – a neighborhood-tour off the beaten path”

Thursday, 6 October 2022
8 am-9 am

View of Rome from Castel Sant’Angelo, Italy.

Rome is also known as the Eternal City, where eternal beauty, eternal noise and eternal traffic miraculously coexist, creating the quintessential Italian experience for foreign travelers. Everyone knows its famous landmarks (the Colosseum, the Vatican, etc.) but not many are familiar with the neighborhoods where they are located; and if asked to leave the touristy areas, most people will find themselves in uncharted territory.

In fact, Rome is divided into dozens of neighborhoods, each carrying its own identity and sense of pride and that you can’t truly know Rome until you immerse yourself in them. A true Roman’s source of pride is not the Colosseum, but their own neighborhood.

Our virtual tour will begin downtown before moving to areas of the city which you didn’t even know existed – these are the most authentically Roman places. After the tour, you will know the answers to the following questions:

  • What is the most authentic Roman neighborhood?
  • How does the vibe differ between a certain area and another?
  • Who is a ‘coatto’ and how does he differ from a ‘pariolino’?
  • Why do some districts have a strong political connotation?
  • Where can you find the best food in the city?

Seeing Italy’s capital from this perspective can shed some light on cultural, social, historical, political and economical differences within the Eternal City and the country itself.

Ci vediamo a Roma!
