Dentons signs Diversity Charters across Europe

Global law firm Dentons announced today that it has signed the Diversity Charters in seven countries across Europe: Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Poland and the Czech Republic.  Additionally, Dentons’ Luxembourg office has committed to signing the Diversity Charter at its annual signing ceremony in March 2017. Together with the latter joining, these will represent all European countries where Dentons has offices and at the same time, where Diversity Charters exist.

Diversity Charters are voluntary initiatives that provide companies with support and best practices in promoting diversity. As a signatory, Dentons commits to taking action to promote diversity and inclusion and ban discrimination in the workplace.

“As the world’s first polycentric law firm, diversity is in our DNA,” said Tomasz Dąbrowski, Chief Executive Officer of Dentons Europe. “By bringing together diverse skills, personalities and strengths, we can better understand the needs of our clients and develop more creative and innovative solutions. We are committed to creating an inclusive working environment where all our people feel empowered to contribute their best.”

“Dentons is one of the first law firms in Poland among signatories of Diversity Charter. I hope that other law firms will follow our lead, and that as business society in Poland we will openly respect individuals’ rights to their life choices” said Arkadiusz Krasnodębski, Poland Managing Partner.

Dentons’ global statement on diversity and inclusion is available at www.dentons.com/en/whats-different-about-dentons/as-diverse-as-you-are.aspx.

Rödl & Partner scores high again in rankings by ‘Rzeczpospolita’

Rödl & Partner has ranked high on Rzeczpospolita’s list of the largest tax advisory firms – in terms of the number of tax advisers it has ranked 6th and in terms of revenue – 8th. Overall, Rödl & Partner is on the 6th place in the general ranking of tax advisory firms. Furthermore, Mr Marcin Jamroży, tax adviser, attorney at law and partner at Rödl & Partner, has been distinguished with the title of a recommended international tax law expert and is the only person from among last year’s winners to receive this title for the second time in a row.

In the age of globalisation, movement of capital and workers, the rules of taxation of cross-border transactions are becoming increasingly important. Comprehensive, often complicated tax and legal regulations, which result from overlapping national and international legislation, as well as international agreements, are a big challenge for enterprises operating across borders. International groups can try to minimise tax burdens and at the same time use the state aid offered by many countries. In the last few years, countries have taken various measures to “seal” their tax systems as they claim that “aggressive” tax optimisation poses a great risk to tax revenue, tax autonomy and faith in the integrity of tax systems of all countries, which may negatively affect investments and competitiveness, and in the long run the growth and employment level worldwide. Therefore, the OECD has developed an action plan to prevent tax base erosion and profit shifting, which is known as the Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) package. First of all, it must be emphasised that an agreement has been reached when it comes to minimum tax standards to be observed and monitored by countries. Enterprises operating across borders must therefore prepare themselves for a new and tighten up tax environment, and revise their current capital structure, if necessary, says Marcin Jamroży summing up the most important current challenges related to international tax planning.

Rödl & Partner has also yet again ranked among top ten audit firms and top ten law firms in the rankings published by Rzeczpospolita. In terms of revenue, Rödl & Partner has gone up a notch and taken the 9th place.

Rödl & Partner is a German firm operating in Poland for almost 25 years. It specialises in audit services, BPO, legal and tax advice services, as well as business consulting.

CEE tax systems continue to be stable – MAZARS Central & Eastern Europe Tax Brochure 2016

Mazars  has  published  its  fourth  annual regional tax summary, covering  the most important issues of current  tax  regimes  of the  Central  and  Eastern Europe (CEE) countries.  It shows, among other things, that tax competition between different countries in the region entered a new phase that involves closer cooperation between those countries in order to prevent tax frauds.

Mazars tax advisors from selected countries define the most important new legal and regulatory trends of fiscal policies in the CEE region.

“The aim of report remains the same. Mazars, the leading audit and tax consultancy firm , wants to  provide investors interested in the region with focused information about tax in the CEE countries, and also to enable them to compare various competitiveness factors” said Kinga Baran, tax advisor, director of the Tax Advisory Department at Mazars’ Warsaw office.

“As a whole, this year’s survey finds that the region’s tax systems have been relatively stable over the past few years. No further structural changes have been necessary to address post-crisis deficit issues, and each country is moving forward with its own strategy” adds Kinga Baran.

Nevertheless there is fine-tuning everywhere. In previous years Hungary led the way with innovative tax solutions related to the financial crisis, however in 2016 it did not come up with any important innovations. Other CEE countries follow some of regulations that have been introduced in Hungary. One of the examples might be a special sector tax on banks, credit unions, insurance companies and other financial institutions based on their total assets entered into force in 2016 in Poland, which is similar to the surtax imposed on the Hungarian financial sector.
